The assessment carried out by our team at Sysco Environmental LTD focused on evaluating the levels of inhalable and respirable dust in a manufacturing site located in Ledbury, Herefordshire. The company produces flexible screening products for various industries. The assessment involved monitoring dust exposure, primarily from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials used in their production processes, as well as hydrogen chloride exposure in areas where heat-based cutting and welding occur. The report also evaluated the effectiveness of existing control measures like local exhaust ventilation (LEV) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
The results showed that dust and gas levels were below the official workplace exposure limits, but recommendations were made to further improve safety practices. Key suggestions included installing additional ventilation in certain areas, updating employee health monitoring to include lung function tests, and improving housekeeping procedures to avoid dry sweeping, which can generate unnecessary dust clouds.
