Construction dust can travel surprisingly far depending on weather, particle size, and site activity. In calm, damp conditions, dust tends to settle quickly and remain close to the work area. But on a dry, windy day, lighter particles can travel hundreds of metres — sometimes even further.
Coarser dust usually falls nearer the boundary, while fine particles like PM2.5 can stay airborne longer and drift through nearby streets and buildings. That’s why local authorities often require monitoring near sensitive areas like schools or homes, just to be safe.
So, while not every job creates long-range dust issues, it’s always best to plan for drift and manage dust from the start.
