Boundary dust monitoring isn’t a blanket legal requirement for all construction projects. However, many sites are required to do it because of planning conditions, local authority requirements, or environmental risk assessments.
Large developments, works near sensitive buildings, and projects in urban areas often must monitor dust as part of their planning permission. Some sites also follow the Greater London Authority’s Control of Dust and Emissions guidance, which strongly encourages boundary monitoring.
So while not every job needs it by law, in practice local authorities increasingly expect it — especially in busy or residential areas.
