Sysco Environmental LTD conducted monitoring of environmental dust levels at a site in London. The monitoring took place over several weeks, from late July to mid-August, to check the dust levels in the area and see if they met air quality standards. Since no construction was going on during this time, the results reflected the regular background dust levels.
Using automated dust monitors, the team tracked particles of different sizes, including PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0. The results were compared to the UK’s air quality guidelines. While most of the days showed acceptable dust levels, on a few occasions, some days saw spikes in PM10 levels that went above the recommended limits.
The report highlighted a few key breaches of the dust limits, which could pose a potential health risk for those working in the area. Along with the real-time air monitoring, tape lift samples were taken from various surfaces around the site. These samples revealed moderate amounts of dust particles, including some glass fibres and mineral fragments, which may require further attention to maintain a safe environment.
