Noise monitors are usually mounted on secure posts or fencing around the site, at a height of around 1.2 to 1.5 metres, which represents the human ear level for passers-by.
They should be positioned at key boundary points — especially near sensitive receptors such as houses, offices, or schools — and away from reflective surfaces that could distort readings.
Units are often powered by mains or solar energy and fitted with weatherproof microphones. Before installation, a short noise survey helps identify the best positions to capture representative data.
