How does boundary noise monitoring work?

Boundary noise monitoring involves installing sound meters around the perimeter of a construction site to measure how much noise is escaping into surrounding areas.

These monitors continuously record sound levels, often comparing them to preset thresholds based on planning conditions. If noise exceeds the limit, the system can send alerts so the contractor can investigate and make adjustments — like changing work timing, shielding equipment, or adding barriers.

Results are logged and summarised in regular reports for clients or local authorities. It’s essentially a live, factual record showing whether a site is being considerate to its neighbours.
