In most cases, the vibration produced by typical construction activities is far too low to actually damage a structurally sound building. People often feel vibration long before it reaches levels capable of physical harm — our bodies are more sensitive than most structures.
However, damage is possible if very high-energy activities are used close to sensitive properties. Activities like driven piling, heavy demolition or compaction near poorly built or historic buildings can sometimes create a risk.
This is why Pre-Condition Surveys (also called dilapidation surveys) and boundary monitoring are recommended. They help separate real damage from pre-existing cracks and provide reassurance to neighbours.
