Construction boundary vibration monitors need to be placed on solid, stable ground so the readings are accurate. They’re usually installed at the site perimeter, closest to homes or sensitive buildings.
The geophone is either:
Fixed directly to the ground using mounting spikes, or
Secured to a concrete block or hard surface
The key is to avoid loose soil or hollow structures, which can distort readings. Once installed, the unit is levelled, powered, and connected to the data platform.
Placement is agreed with the council or principal contractor so the monitors represent the “worst-case” positions.
