Sysco Environmental Ltd recently undertook a comprehensive anthrax survey at Lansdowne Primary School in Cardiff. The objective was to identify and assess any historic plaster that might contain animal hair and Bacillus anthracis spores, ensuring the safety of both workers and building occupants during critical roof repairs. The survey encompassed Blocks 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7, and while animal hair plaster was found, no traces of anthrax were detected. Nonetheless, it was recommended that non-accessed areas be assumed contaminated until further verified. Our findings highlight the importance of ongoing monitoring and proper management of potentially hazardous materials, recommending that all identified animal hair plaster be documented and subjected to regular re-inspection. This case study underscores Sysco Environmental Ltd's dedication to thorough environmental risk assessments and the meticulous management of historical building materials, ensuring both safety and preservation.
