In January 2025, an Asbestos Management Survey was carried out at a commercial facility in Swadlincote to assess the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. The survey included accessible areas of the site, focusing on building materials that could contain asbestos.
The results were reassuring....no asbestos was detected in vinyl floor tiles or insulating board panels tested in the server room and loft space. However, some materials, including internal flash guards, rope seals and fire protection materials within electrical fuse boxes and immersion heaters, were strongly presumed to contain chrysotile asbestos. These areas were noted as low risk since the asbestos-containing materials were enclosed and undisturbed.
The report recommended continuing asbestos management by monitoring these materials, avoiding unnecessary disturbance, and ensuring proper handling procedures if any maintenance is required. No immediate remedial actions were necessary, but staff should remain aware of ACM locations to prevent accidental exposure.
By following these recommendations, the facility can maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with asbestos regulations while minimising potential health risks.
