The level of intrusion depends on the type of asbestos survey. A Management Survey is generally non-intrusive — the surveyor looks for visible signs of asbestos and takes only minimal samples, aiming to assess materials in normal daily use.
A Refurbishment and Demolition Survey, however, is more invasive. It involves accessing wall cavities, ceilings, and other hidden areas where asbestos may be present. This type of survey can involve drilling or removing panels to gain access, and it’s always done under strict safety conditions with proper containment to prevent fibre release.
If you’re unsure which survey you need, the surveyor can advise based on your building’s use and any planned works.
