Why is asbestos dangerous in buildings?

Asbestos becomes hazardous when disturbed, releasing microscopic fibres into the air. When inhaled, these fibres can cause severe lung diseases, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. The danger lies in long term exposure, but even short-term exposure in high concentrations can pose risks. Because asbestos related illnesses develop over decades, many people are unaware they’ve been affected until much later.
