In October 2024, a Mould and Damp Assessment was conducted at a dental practice in Falmouth to investigate indoor air quality and assess potential damp-related issues. The inspection covered multiple areas, including treatment rooms, reception and staff areas, where moisture buildup and fungal contamination were identified.
The assessment found that indoor air quality was poor, with elevated fungal spore levels in several rooms, particularly in Surgery 2, Surgery 7 and the reception area. Fungal contamination was visible on walls and cabinetry, with damp conditions contributing to further growth. The risk to health was rated moderate to high, indicating that prolonged exposure could cause respiratory issues, particularly for sensitive individuals.
To improve air quality, the report recommended improving ventilation, removing and treating contaminated surfaces, repairing damaged external walls and ensuring proper humidity control. Additional steps such as installing air purifiers with HEPA filters and sealing leaks were advised to prevent further damp-related issues.
By following these recommendations, the practice can restore indoor air quality, create a healthier environment for staff and patients, and prevent future mould-related problems. Regular monitoring and maintenance will be essential for long-term improvement.
