Mould And Damp Essex

Mould & Damp Assessment in Colchester

A recent assessment was carried out at a restaurant in Colchester to evaluate the extent of mould and damp issues, especially in the basement area. The building, dating back to the early 1900s, was flagged for moisture buildup and possible fungal contamination, with some staff reporting respiratory problems, particularly after the basement had flooded the previous year.

The inspection revealed that moisture levels were significantly elevated in certain areas, including the basement storage rooms, freezer corridor, and manager’s office. Fungal contamination, including mould, was particularly found in the COSHH cupboard, which had poor ventilation and visible mould growth on shelving. Other areas of concern were the damaged roofing and ineffective ventilation, which contributed to the damp conditions.

The report recommended improving ventilation, especially in the basement, insulating exposed pipes, and repairing roof tiles to prevent further water intrusion. Additionally, cleaning or replacing contaminated surfaces, particularly in storage areas, was advised to prevent the mould from spreading. By addressing these issues, the overall air quality and safety of the building can be improved, reducing health risks for staff and occupants.
