In November 2024, Sysco carried out a Mould and Damp Assessment at a residential property in Brecon to evaluate indoor air quality and identify any potential moisture-related issues. The assessment focused on multiple areas, including living spaces, bedrooms, storage areas and the loft to determine the extent of fungal contamination and dampness.
The results showed that overall fungal spore levels indoors were comparable to outdoor levels, indicating no significant widespread contamination. However, certain rooms including the bathroom, bedrooms and storage areas recorded elevated levels of Aspergillus/Penicillium spores, which are often linked to water damage. While the risk to occupants was classified as moderate, long-term exposure could lead to indoor air quality concerns.
To improve conditions, the report recommended ventilating the property extensively, addressing moisture-prone areas, and maintaining proper humidity levels. Regular cleaning, dehumidification and monitoring of damp-prone areas will help prevent further mould growth.
By taking proactive steps, the property can maintain a healthier indoor environment, reducing the risk of mould-related issues and ensuring a comfortable space for future occupants.
