What is the difference between rising damp and condensation damp?
Rising damp occurs when moisture from the ground travels up through porous building materials due to capillary action. It typically leaves a tidemark on walls and is associated with a failed dampproof course.
Condensation damp happens when warm, humid air meets cold surfaces, leading to water droplets forming. This is common in poorly ventilated areas like bathrooms and kitchens. Unlike rising damp, condensation does not leave a tidemark and usually causes black mould growth
