In June 2024 an evaluation for radon presence was carried out in various Sheffield schools to check their adherence to health and safety regulations concerning radon exposure.
The school conducted tests on radon levels in areas and found that they were all below the threshold for action levels; this indicates that there is no immediate health hazard present. Since radon is a gas and can accumulate in enclosed spaces like schools it is crucial to regularly monitor its levels to safeguard the well being of staff and students. Thankfully the test results showed no radon concentrations so there is no need for action, at this moment.
The report suggests monitoring these levels when making changes, to the building; however the school can rest assured that it is in compliance with current safety standards. In this instance the radon levels are being effectively managed, ensuring a setting, for both students and staff members.
