In January 2025, an Indoor Air Quality Assessment was conducted by our hygienist at a residential building in Cumbria to evaluate the air quality and identify potential contaminants affecting the indoor environment. The assessment focused on biological, chemical and physical air pollutants, ensuring that the building maintained a safe and comfortable atmosphere for occupants.
The results showed that biological contaminants, including airborne bacteria, were elevated in some apartments, particularly in unoccupied or less-ventilated areas. However, chemical pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde and carbon monoxide were well within safe limits, meaning there were no major concerns regarding hazardous chemical exposure. Carbon dioxide levels were marginally elevated in some areas, indicating a need for improved ventilation.
To enhance air quality, the report recommended installing proper ventilation systems, using HEPA filters and increasing fresh air circulation. Regular cleaning and disinfection were also advised to reduce microbial contamination.
By implementing these measures and continuing routine air quality monitoring, the property can maintain a safe and healthy indoor environment, ensuring the well-being of all occupants.
