Workplace Air Monitoring Assessment near Brigg

Sysco Environmental recently completed a Workplace Air Monitoring Assessment at a large manufacturing facility just outside Brigg, focusing on identifying and managing potential airborne contaminants in everyday production areas. The aim was simple — to get a clear picture of the air quality around workers, confirm compliance with UK exposure limits, and offer practical recommendations for ongoing safety.

The assessment covered various production zones, including extrusion halls, a link building, and a core area, where workers handle polymers and packaging materials. Our monitoring found that air quality across all areas was within the expected safe range — none of the tested substances exceeded Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs). However, some tasks, such as manual cleaning and compressed air use, had room for improvement. Simple housekeeping updates, like switching from dry sweeping to HEPA-filtered vacuums and controlling dust when using compressed air, were recommended to further minimise risk.

The facility already had good general ventilation and personal protective equipment policies in place, along with active health surveillance for staff. Sysco’s recommendations focused on refining maintenance routines, ensuring regular testing of local exhaust ventilation systems, and providing refresher training on safe work practices.

This proactive assessment helps the site stay ahead of compliance requirements while protecting workers’ long-term health. By fine-tuning existing controls, the company can maintain clean air, confident compliance, and a safer environment for everyone.

Indoor Air Quality in Scunthorpe

Our team lead a project that was all about checking the indoor air quality at a commercial building in Scunthorpe. The main focus was to see if any chemical pollutants or ventilation issues were causing discomfort for the people working there. The assessment covered temperature, humidity, and air contaminants across the building and its annex. After gathering the data, it was found that the air quality, including the levels of contaminants and fresh air, was generally good. There were no clear signs that poor air quality was causing any health issues, despite some dust noticed by employees due to ongoing night work.

One key recommendation was to improve ventilation, especially in high-traffic office areas, to enhance the fresh air supply. Keeping the temperatures steady and introducing houseplants or even a humidifier might help with humidity too. Overall, the building’s air quality is solid, but small improvements in ventilation could make a noticeable difference.
