Our team at Sysco carried out an assessment focusing on an office building in Crowborough, addressing concerns raised by staff about the indoor environment. The study aimed to evaluate the presence of chemical and physical contaminants and assess ventilation efficiency.
The findings revealed elevated levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and significantly high concentrations of formaldehyde, both of which could contribute to health issues. Carbon dioxide levels were also elevated, indicating insufficient ventilation in parts of the building. On the bright side, carbon monoxide levels were well within safe limits and temperature and humidity conditions were comfortable and unlikely to cause discomfort.
To improve air quality, recommendations included increasing ventilation, sealing or removing sources of formaldehyde, and implementing air purification measures. Regular monitoring and maintenance of HVAC systems were also advised to ensure a consistent flow of fresh air and reduce pollutant levels.
This project highlights the importance of addressing indoor air quality in workplaces. By identifying and mitigating potential risks businesses can ensure a healthier, more comfortable environment for employees, ultimately improving overall productivity and well-being.
