Isocyanates in urine biological test kit is designed for the assessment of biological exposure of operatives working with or likely to be exposed to isocyanate compounds. This kit is suitable to evaluate the legislative compliance of exposure controls in a workplace environment.
The test includes the combined analysis of 1,6-hexamethylene diamine (HDI), Isophorone diamine (IPDI), 4,4-methylene dianiline (MDI), 2,4-toluene diamine (TDI) and 2,6-toluene diamine (TDI).
Isocyanates are respiratory sensitisers and their exposures should be kept as low as reasonably practicable. Biological monitoring is a simple and cost-effective way of checking that control measures are working and employees are adequately protected.
This kit included biological monitoring analysis for HDI and IPDI which are typically found in spray paints, TDI often found in foams and glues, and MDI used in resins and hardeners.
Biomonitoring offers many advantages over traditional physical dust/vapour collection and chemical methods of analysis. The advantages of biomonitoring include:
1. Biological monitoring, provides the most direct or first-hand information about exposures from all sources and via all routes. It is like asking a patient how he feels instead of consulting the physician attending on him.
2 Biological monitoring is simple to administer and is typically more cost-effective comparing to traditional air sampling.
3. Biological methods are usually more useful when the cumulative effect of environmental factors spread over a long duration of time has to be observed.
4. When there are a number of factors acting at the same time, biological monitoring may effectively show the combined effect of all these factors at the same time.
