In January 2025, a Hazardous Substance Assessment was carried out at an industrial facility in Essex to evaluate air quality and ensure employees weren’t being exposed to hazardous substances. The assessment focused on work areas, particularly clean rooms where chemical exposure could be a concern.
The results showed that all tested substances were within workplace safety limits, meaning no immediate risks were identified. However, exposure to cyclohexanone in Clean Room 5 was considered significant, though still below legal limits. This suggested that while the environment was safe, some improvements could further reduce exposure risks over time.
To enhance workplace safety, the report recommended installing additional local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems, implementing job rotation to minimise prolonged exposure, and considering biological monitoring to track chemical absorption levels. Ensuring proper protective equipment use and health surveillance was also advised.
By following these recommendations and maintaining regular monitoring, the facility can continue to provide a safe and compliant work environment, ensuring employees remain protected while performing essential tasks.
