LEV Assessment in Southampton

In November 2024, a Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Assessment was carried out at a site in Southampton to check the effectiveness of its extraction systems used during optical production processes. The inspection focused on two systems (LEV 01 in the lacquer stripping area and LEV 12 in the sluice room) to make sure they’re doing their job of removing airborne vapours safely and efficiently.

Both systems were found to be functioning to a satisfactory standard, with airflow measurements hitting the expected performance range for non-condensing vapours. Visual and airflow tests, along with observations of operator use, confirmed the systems were controlling emissions well.

However, the report didn’t stop there as it recommended a few upgrades to keep everything running smoothly. This included routine maintenance, fitting airflow indicators, cleaning ductwork and fans and improving operator training. There was also advice to review material substitution and to introduce personal exposure monitoring, just to keep things extra safe.

With a few practical improvements and regular checks, the LEV systems will continue to provide reliable protection for workers and maintain compliance with health and safety standards. Simple, effective and totally manageable.
