Hazardous Substances Assessments in Swansea: A Practical Approach
This project took place at an industrial site in Swansea, where a detailed Hazardous Substances Assessment was carried out. The focus was on evaluating workers’ exposure to airborne substances from manufacturing processes, especially in areas using adhesives and curing agents. The assessment team spent time onsite observing how employees work, what controls are in place, and how substances could potentially affect health.
The good news? Airborne substance levels were well below the legal exposure limits, showing the site has decent controls in place. However, there were still a few areas flagged for improvement—things like upgrading protective clothing, ensuring safety glasses are consistently worn and tightening up how fumes are controlled around curing ovens.
The report wrapped up with some sensible recommendations, like more training for staff, regular health check-ins and upgrading local exhaust systems to keep air quality in check as workloads shift. All in all, the project was about helping the business stay compliant, while making the workplace healthier and safer for everyone involved.
