A lead survey was recently conducted at a property in Wigston, focusing on the paint used in various areas, including lift doors, radiators, and loading bay doors. The survey was carried out to assess the presence of lead-based paint and the potential risks associated with it.
Out of 20 samples taken from different parts of the building, two were identified as containing lead levels above 1%. These were the paint on the loading bay doors and pipes in the underground floor, with concentrations of 13.31% and 2.29%, respectively. These levels indicate a significant exposure risk, especially during any maintenance work, such as sanding or cutting, which can release lead dust.
The report recommends that work involving the removal or disturbance of lead-based materials should be carried out with appropriate protective measures. This includes using respiratory equipment and other personal protective gear to minimise exposure. Additionally, any waste generated during lead paint removal must be treated as hazardous and disposed of accordingly.
For the remaining samples, no significant lead content was found, but standard safety precautions should still be followed to prevent exposure to dust during work. Overall, the survey highlights the importance of managing lead-containing materials safely to protect both workers and occupants.
