In October 2024, a lead reassurance survey took place at a worksite in Attleborough, evaluating air quality and worker exposure during lead paint removal. The assessment focused on monitoring airborne lead levels and checking workers' hands for any residual lead dust before and after their tasks.
Air sampling showed that lead dust levels during paint stripping activities were well below the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL), making significant exposure unlikely. Workers used standard protective gear, which provided adequate protection against any dust particles. Hand wipe tests revealed only low to moderate lead residue, and after decontamination, the lead levels dropped further, indicating effective personal hygiene practices.
Overall, the findings confirmed that the current protective measures and hygiene protocols are working well. Continued adherence to these practices, along with routine monitoring and proper disposal of any waste, will keep the work environment safe and minimise exposure for those involved in lead-handling tasks.
