What happens during an LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) test?
Examining whether an LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) system is truly controlling hazardous pollutants as it should is the aim of testing. A certified tester will typically begin with a visual examination, checking for any visible wear or damage on the hoods, filters, ductwork, and extraction points. Following that, they will assess airflow and capture efficiency, frequently demonstrating the effectiveness of contaminants being swept away with smoke tests or anemometers, which measure air speed.
The entire procedure involves evaluating the system's performance in relation to its intended use and HSE's standards. The tester will point out any issues and provide solutions if necessary. Making sure that your employees are not inhaling dangerous dusts, fumes, or vapors is more important than simply checking boxes.
