Are there workplace exposure limits (WELs) for plastic fumes?

There aren’t specific WELs (Workplace Exposure Limits) for “plastic fumes” as a whole in the UK. Instead, limits exist for specific substances released during plastic processing — such as formaldehyde, styrene, or acrolein. These are listed in HSE’s EH40 document. This is why it’s important to identify the type of plastic and thermal process used, as different plastics release different compounds with their own WELs.
