At Sysco Environmental Ltd, we conducted occupational exposure monitoring at a metal casting workshop in Middlesbrough, focusing on respirable crystalline silica (RCS) hazards. Recognising the severe health risks of RCS, including silicosis and lung cancer, we aimed to evaluate the workshop's air quality and ensure safety compliance.
We collaborated with workshop management to implement a robust RCS risk management plan. This included upgrading ventilation systems, enforcing the use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE), and improving housekeeping practices. We also conducted worker training sessions on RCS risk awareness and proper RPE usage.
Through these measures, Sysco Environmental Ltd significantly reduced occupational exposure to RCS in the workshop, ensuring a safer working environment and regulatory compliance.
