Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is a system designed to capture dust right at the source before it spreads into the air you breathe. It works by using a hood or extraction point positioned close to the task, connected to ducting and a filtration unit.
When dealing with RCS, LEV is especially effective because it stops fine dust from spreading around the work area, reducing the risk for everyone nearby.
LEV systems need to be properly designed for the task, maintained regularly, and tested at least every 14 months (as required by COSHH). Without upkeep, their performance can drop dramatically without anyone noticing.
