In January 2025, a Hazardous Substance Assessment was carried out at a rubber moulding facility in Bordon to see how workers were being exposed to dust and fumes during typical operations. The main focus was on staff in the moulding shop, where exposure to rubber process dust and fumes was assessed during a regular shift.
Good news all around: none of the measured substances exceeded the workplace exposure limits, even when roof fans were switched off during part of the assessment. Both personal and static air samples came back below detection limits, indicating that the current working conditions are pretty well controlled.
Still, the report encouraged some sensible steps to keep it that way by making sure roof fans run consistently during working hours and continuing regular health surveillance for staff. General housekeeping was found to be good, though the use of dry sweeping could be swapped for HEPA-filtered vacuums to reduce the risk of dust clouds.
Overall, the site is in a solid place. With regular reviews, proper PPE use, and a focus on continued staff training, the team can keep exposures low and the air clean for everyone on the floor.
