Welding fume testing should be done by a competent occupational hygienist or exposure specialist — someone trained in air sampling, COSHH assessment and interpreting Workplace Exposure Limits.
They don’t need a specific government licence, but they should have recognised training such as BOHS modules, professional membership, or significant practical experience. The lab analysing the samples should be accredited, ideally to ISO 17025.
Choosing a qualified hygienist ensures your results are defensible if the HSE ever inspects your site.
