Most carpentry and joinery workshops benefit from wood dust testing, especially if staff do a lot of sanding or machining. Testing confirms whether exposure is kept within the legal limits and whether your LEV (local exhaust ventilation) is actually doing its job.
Even clean-looking workshops can have airborne dust that’s not visible. Monitoring is often the only way to catch issues like extraction blockages or poor airflow. Testing also provides reassurance during HSE inspections — inspectors usually expect to see some form of exposure monitoring, especially if hardwoods are used.
