In January 2025, a Hazardous Substance Assessment was carried out across two production sites in Blackpool to see how workers in the mixing and packing areas were being exposed to airborne dusts and vapours during their daily tasks. The goal was to make sure everything is in check and safe when it comes to substances like ethanol, various acids and workplace dust.
The results were mostly positive. No measured exposures exceeded workplace limits, but there was a notable exception. One result in the mixing area showed inhalable dust levels at just over 50% of the workplace exposure limit. That’s not immediately dangerous, but it does call for a bit of tightening up.
The report offered some solid, easy-to-implement advice: train staff to always use the LEV systems, improve dust control when handling powders and look at job rotation or time limits to reduce exposure over long shifts. On top of that, keeping up with health surveillance and regular LEV servicing will help keep everything running smoothly.
So, while the workplace isn’t in the red, a few tweaks could go a long way in keeping things safe, clean and compliant.
