We were commissioned to perform a hazardous substances assessment at a premises in Blackburn. Our team focused on evaluating employees' exposure to various dust types in the joinery area, specifically inhalable, respirable, hardwood, and softwood dust. The assessment involved air monitoring in accordance with COSHH Regulations 2002 to ensure compliance and recommend control measures.
We utilised both personal and static air sampling methods to capture accurate exposure data. Observations revealed some areas for improvement, particularly in the effectiveness of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems and the use of respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
Recommendations included the installation of portable on-tool extraction systems, the establishment of a health surveillance programme, and enhancements to housekeeping practices to reduce dust generation. The goal was to minimise the risk of exposure and ensure a safer working environment for all employees.
This project underscores our commitment to delivering thorough and effective occupational hygiene assessments, helping clients maintain high standards of health and safety in their operations.
