Hardwood dust concentration is measured at 3 milligrams, per meter, over an ï¸eight hour duration as the value.
Softwood sawdust concentration is measured at 5 milligrams, per meter on an average over an 8 hour period.
When dealing with mixed wood dust exposure levels, in the air at workplaces containing both softwood particles combined together in the atmosphere the regulation requires that the concentration of these particles should not exceed 3 mg/m³, per meter of air to ensure worker safety.
If wood dust exposure limits are exceeded in the workplace, it increases the risk of respiratory issues, skin and eye irritation and long-term health problems like asthma and cancer. Employers must implement control measures to reduce exposure, such as ventilation and personal protective equipment (PPE), and may face regulatory consequences for non-compliance.
