For wood dust, the best LEV systems are usually capture-at-source units, such as extraction hoods integrated directly into saws, sanders, and planers. These systems pull dust into a duct the moment it’s created.
High-volume extraction units with cyclone separators or bag filters are common in larger workshops and sawmills. Smaller shops often use mobile extraction units, but these must be sized correctly — underpowered systems don’t capture enough dust.
In any case, the system only works well if it’s regularly maintained and the hoods are positioned correctly.
