How much hand and arm vibration exposure is dangerous?

Clear exposure limits for hand-arm vibration (HAV) are established by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The Exposure Limit Value (ELV) of 5 m/s² A(8) and the Exposure Action Value (EAV) of 2.5 m/s² A(8), measured over an 8-hour period, are the crucial figures. Simply said, the employer must take measures to minimise exposure if a worker consistently exceeds the action value. This may involve reducing tool time, switching up duties, or investing in stronger equipment. When exposure reaches the limit value, it is too high and should not be continued. Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), which is irreversible, can result from frequent, prolonged exposure over certain levels.
