Hand and Arm Vibration Assessment Services in Scunthorpe

A Hand & Arm Vibration Assessment was carried out at a maintenance facility in Scunthorpe to better understand the vibration exposure experienced by workers using hand-held power tools during normal maintenance tasks. The survey formed part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to managing occupational health risks and ensuring compliance with UK workplace safety regulations relating to vibration exposure.

During the assessment, the focus was on typical activities carried out in the maintenance workshop. Operatives were observed using a range of common powered tools used for tasks such as tightening bolts, cutting metal, grinding, and drilling. These tools naturally produce vibration, and depending on how frequently they are used and for how long, they can contribute to long-term health risks affecting the hands and arms.

The findings showed that vibration exposure can vary significantly depending on the specific tool being used and the duration of each task. In some cases, prolonged or repeated use of certain equipment could increase the likelihood of employees experiencing higher levels of vibration exposure during their working day.

To help manage these risks, the report outlined several practical recommendations. These included improving maintenance programmes for equipment, reviewing the way certain tools are used during tasks, introducing better recording of tool usage time, and considering alternative equipment where appropriate.

Overall, the assessment provides useful insight into how vibration risks arise in workshop environments and highlights practical steps that can help protect workers’ long-term health and safety.
