We attended a project that was all about checking the exposure of workers to whole-body vibration (WBV) at a site in Long Bennington. Our team was called in to evaluate how much vibration employees were dealing with daily while operating machinery, especially forklifts. The goal? To ensure their exposure levels were safe and met health and safety regulations.
The assessment took place over a couple of days, where the main focus was on forklift truck drivers. They move gas cylinders around, and the job involves a fair bit of sitting and driving. The ground they work on is relatively smooth, and the forklift speeds are kept low, so the risk of excessive vibration is reduced. Thankfully, the results showed that none of the workers were at risk of hitting dangerous vibration levels.
Recommendations were made, like keeping tyres in good condition and ensuring staff are trained on the seating adjustments for better comfort. Overall, it looks like the job rotation system they already had in place helped keep exposure low, but a few tweaks will make things even safer going forward. It’s all about ensuring workers are comfortable and protected from long-term vibration risks.
