In November 2024, a Whole Body Vibration (WBV) Assessment was carried out at a logistics facility in Caernarfon to evaluate employee exposure to vibration and ensure workplace safety. The assessment focused on forklift operators, who experience vibration from vehicle movement, particularly on uneven yard surfaces.
The results showed that all measured WBV levels were below the legal exposure action value, meaning no immediate risks were identified. However, prolonged exposure to jolts and uneven ground could still contribute to discomfort or potential long-term health effects, particularly in the lower back.
To minimise risks, the report recommended continuing job rotation to reduce extended exposure, ensuring forklift operators adjust seating for proper support and maintaining vehicles to limit unnecessary vibration. Additionally, filling potholes and levelling uneven surfaces were suggested to further reduce vibrations during vehicle operation.
By following these recommendations and keeping up with regular monitoring, the site can ensure that vibration exposure remains controlled, protecting employees’ well-being while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
