The HSE generally expects employers to show that WBV risks have been actively considered — and where necessary, measured and controlled. This doesn’t always mean complex reports, but there should be documented evidence of how vibration risks were identified and what steps were taken.
This might include risk assessments, vibration exposure measurements, equipment maintenance records, seat inspections, operator training logs, and any steps taken to reduce exposure — such as limiting usage time or improving driving surfaces.
If physical monitoring has been carried out, the results and any follow-up actions should also be recorded. Importantly, there should be a clear link between the findings and the controls implemented.
In short, it’s about demonstrating that vibration risk hasn’t just been assumed to be safe — but actually assessed in a structured way.
