This project focused on assessing noise levels at a Ventilation’s facility in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. The goal was to ensure that workers weren’t exposed to harmful levels of noise during their daily activities. Sysco Environmental Ltd conducted the assessment, which looked at different areas of the site, including the Press Workshop, Duct Shop, and Assembly Area.
The assessment revealed that certain operatives, especially those working with welding equipment and heavy machinery, were exposed to noise levels that exceeded safe thresholds. As a result, mandatory hearing protection was advised for workers in these zones. The study also recommended installing noise-activated signage and using ear protection with a lower sound reduction rating to prevent over-protection, which can lead to isolation.
Other recommendations included limiting radio volumes, isolating noisy machines, and conducting regular health surveillance for employees exposed to high noise levels. The client was also encouraged to adopt a low-noise purchasing policy for future equipment and provide ongoing training for workers on noise risks.
The assessment concluded that while the company is already taking steps to reduce noise exposure, more can be done to ensure long-term safety for their employees.
