n November 2024, a Noise Assessment was carried out at a manufacturing site in Broomfleet to evaluate noise exposure levels and ensure employees are protected from excessive workplace noise. The assessment focused on packing, setting and press operations, where machinery generates high noise levels throughout the workday.
The results showed that employees working in packing, setting and press areas were exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dB(A), requiring mandatory hearing protection. Workers in spray and clay preparation areas were exposed to levels above 80 dB(A), meaning hearing protection was recommended but not required. Employees operating loading shovels inside enclosed cabins had the lowest noise exposure.
To minimise risks, the report recommended enforcing hearing protection rules in high-noise areas, maintaining equipment to reduce unnecessary noise and improving training on proper ear protection use. Regular hearing checks and noise awareness programs were also suggested.
By following these recommendations and continuing routine noise monitoring, the site can ensure a safer and more comfortable working environment, protecting employees from potential long-term hearing damage.
