Sysco Environmental Ltd conducted a comprehensive noise assessment at an industrial facility in Kendal to evaluate employee noise exposure and recommend control measures. The assessment focused on the Fabrication area, CNC machines area, and Factory Saw area. Results showed that daily personal exposure levels ranged from 92 to 96 dB(A) in the Fabrication area, 85 dB(A) in the CNC area, and 92 dB(A) in the Factory Saw area. Peak sound pressures were notably high, ranging from 134 to 145 dB(C).
To mitigate these levels, several recommendations were made. Using rubber matting at workstations and installing acoustic panels in the Fabrication area can help reduce impact noise. Regular maintenance of noise-producing equipment is also essential. Enforcing mandatory use of hearing protection in high-noise areas, coupled with training on proper use and offering various types for comfort, is crucial for employee safety. Regular audiometric testing for those exposed to high noise levels should be conducted as part of ongoing health surveillance.
