    How we monitor

    Continuous direct-reading mercury vapour monitors (gold-film or atomic absorption) for area mapping and personal sampling, plus surface wipe sampling for hand-transfer hazard. Workplace personal sampling against EH40.

    Practical controls

    Source removal where possible, mercury-specific spill kits, prohibition of vacuum cleaners (other than mercury-specific), enclosed handling under LEV, and post-incident clearance sampling.
